What Isn’t Inside Excellacor

Excellacor is free of pesticides, chemicals, preservatives, animal derivatives, dairy, yeast, fish or shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts. All individual enzymes are kosher-certified ingredients, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

What Sets Excellacor Apart

Excellacor contains AST’s original proprietary formula created by our master enzymologist. Originally marketed as Exclzyme, it has been
commercially available for nearly 20 years. Its loyal use by companies, health practitioners and consumers have made it the #1 non-animal derived systemic formulation.

Excellacor has an enteric coating that allows the powerful enzyme blend to bypass the acidic environment of the stomach and reach the small intestine, where absorption occurs. Our enteric-coated serrapeptase has been formulated with the use of Methacrylic Acid Copolymer (MAAC), a safe food-grade compound used in the pharmaceutical industry with no reported side effects. Without enteric coating, enzymes will denature, or lose their effectiveness, in the stomach.

In addition, various proteases in Excellacor help break down proteins and amino acid chains, promoting total body support.*

Excellacor also supports healthy fibrin levels in the circulatory system.*

Fibrin is a protein that the body produces when healing. The protein precursor fibrinogen is converted into fibrin, which forms a layer of
connective tissue inside the blood vessel. The fibrin strands assemble into a net-like structure over an affected vessel and harden, forming a “patch” to prevent further damage.

While fibrin is meant to have a protective function in the body, too much fibrin buildup can cause problems.

Why Choose Excellacor

Excellacor’s unique proprietary formula and efficacy-maximizing enteric coating make it the most potent blend on the market to support normal fibrin metabolism, metabolic health, and joint, muscle, and tissue health.*

Our enzymes are manufactured in a ISO 9001:2000 and GMP certified facilities, and undergo rigorous quality testing.

If your systemic enzyme supplement has changed, we have the original formula.

Some companies claim to continue to carry the original formula. One easy way to check is to see if the bottle says the enzyme serrapeptase is enteric-coated. Serrapeptase, sourced from the bacterium Serratia marcescens is the key ingredient in the original Full-Strength Excellacor. This key ingredient must be enteric coated so it can pass through the acid environment of the stomach without being damaged.

And as for the new formulas on the market claiming to be stronger or more technologically advanced: the proof is in the results.

There is an underlying art when it comes to manufacturing enzyme products. Systemic enzyme blends must be formulated professionally for maximum effectiveness. In fact, alterations to an already successful systemic enzyme product may not provide the same results you’ve come to expect.

Many companies, including ours, use proprietary formulas to protect their products from being copied and used by others. But all companies must list all of the ingredients by name, and rank the ingredients according to the percentage amounts in the formula. For instance, in the original Excellacor formula, enteric-coated serrapeptase is listed on our ingredient list as the second most prevalent ingredient in our formulation.

If your “new and improved” systemic formula does not list enteric coated serrapeptase as the second ingredient, you are probably not getting the most out of your systemic enzyme formula. Serrapeptase has always been the hallmark of the original Excellacor formula, making it the choice of companies and consumers alike.

*AST Enzymes uses MAAC as enteric coating

What is enteric coating, and why is it needed?

Enteric coating is a layer of protective coating for dietary supplements that is meant to allow the supplement to bypass digestion by the stomach and be absorbed in the small intestine. Systemic enzymes are proteins, so their functional structures are denatured (or destroyed) in conditions of extreme pH and temperature. Without enteric coating, enzymes would be rendered useless long before they reach the bloodstream, where their carry out their beneficial effects.

What’s enteric coating made of?

At AST Enzymes, we use Methacrylic Acid Copolymer (MAAC) for our enteric coating. Methacrylic Acid Copolymer (MAAC) is not a phthalate. According to independent studies, MAAC is the most gastro-resistant when compared to other commonly used enteric coating agents such as Cellulose Acetate Phthalate (CAP) and Hydroxypropyl Methycellulose Phthalate (HPMCP). This means that MAAC can most effectively withstand the acidity of the stomach, allowing its contents to be released in the small intestine and absorbed successfully.

Don’t let the name scare you. MAAC is a food-grade compound that has been in use as enteric coating in the pharmaceutical industry for over 50 years with no reported side effects. In fact, the European Food Safety Authority – an organization that conducted studies which led to the ban of 6 types of phthalates in personal care products in Europe in 2004 – has deemed MAAC safe for use as coating agent in food supplements.

MAAC is listed as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) also conducted various studies and found sufficient information to reasonably conclude that the current use pattern of
MAAC will not adversely affect public health or the environment.
